Giftedness and Dabrowski’s Theory of Positive Disintegration

Christiane Wells, Ph.D., is the director of qualitative research for the Institute for the Study of Advanced Development and a therapist in private practice in Colorado. Chris specializes in Dabrowski’s theory of positive disintegration and its application to the gifted in research and practice.
If you’re interested in learning more about what Dabrowski meant by positive disintegration and overexcitability, and how it relates to giftedness, please join us. Dabrowski’s constructs have been more helpful to me than any diagnosis that I have lived with from the DSM. Instead of describing myself as an expert, I would say that I have lived through positive disintegration many times, which led me to study it with great enthusiasm. The theory of positive disintegration has provided me a framework for understanding the intense experience that has always characterized my life.
