We are proud to kick off the second year of our mini-conference platform, GHF Conversations: a half-day of topic-driven programming featuring two expert speakers, each followed by facilitated conversation sessions with and for our thoughtful and engaging community of educators and parents. In this edition of GHF Conversations we present Enrichment Opportunities for Gifted and 2e Kids, led by Carol Malueg and Suki Wessling.
For those who are new to our quarterly mini-conference platform, GHF Conversations is a half-day of topic-driven programming featuring two expert presenters, each of whom are followed by facilitated conversation sessions with and for our thoughtful and engaging community of educators and parents. GHF Board Director of Choices Carol Malueg shares her wealth of knowledge about finding great-fit enrichment and social opportunities for gifted and 2e kids who aren’t getting these needs adequately met in school.

Carol Malueg, M.A. GCT, 2e, is the mother of 2 gifted young adults, works in the field of gifted education and support, and volunteers with several state and national organizations that support gifted kids and their families. Carol sits on the Board of Directors for the Gifted Homeschoolers Forum (GHF) and the Minnesota Council for the Gifted and Talented (MCGT). She received the MCGT Friend of the Gifted award in 2020. Carol has trained hundreds of Supporting Emotional Needs of the Gifted (SENG) Model Parent Group Facilitators from around the world and was awarded the SENG Presidential Award for Distinguished Service in 2021. She has worked on three Javits Grant research projects focused on improving identification of and services for gifted at-risk students. Carol currently works as a Learning Coach and Educational Consultant. Gifted-kid pied piper and enrichment expert, Suki Wessling discusses how transformative quality online enrichment pathways can be for homeschooled gifted and 2e kids.

Suki Wessling is a writer of widely published poetry, fiction, and non-fiction. She has worked as a college English teacher, small press publisher, graphic designer, and journalist. Suki writes about gifted children, education, and homeschooling, with an emphasis on serving the emotional and academic needs of unusual learners. Her books, From School to Homeschool (Great Potential Press) and Exploring Homeschooling for your Gifted Learner (National Association for Gifted Children), introduce parents seeking alternative educational approaches for their gifted children to the basics of homeschooling. Suki is also the author of Hanna, Homeschooler, a chapter book, and Homeschool with Confidence, a goal-setting guide for teens. Suki teaches writing, literature, and education classes for children and adults in person and online at Athena’s Advanced Academy (http://www.athenasacademy.com/).
