Jaime Smith Presents: Validating Homeschool Learning for College Admissions

Jaime Smith
Validating Homeschool Learning for College Applications
Much of America’s high school curricula is standardized and simple for college admissions officers to understand and evaluate. Homeschoolers are different! And we like it that way! Let’s discuss common college admissions requirements and how to prove that your homeschooler has met them.
In this session we will discuss:
•Records to keep throughout the high school years
•Transcript basics for homeschoolers
•Selecting graduation requirements and grading scales
•AP vs. dual enrollment course
•Choosing tests in a test-optional
Jaime Smith has been teaching English to children and adults since 1997, when she began teaching 5th and 6th grade Language Arts at The Harker School in San Jose after earning a B.A. in Linguistics from U.C. Berkeley. Since then, Jaime has earned an M.A. TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) and an M.S. Education with an emphasis in online teaching and learning. She has taught for institutions such as San Jose State University, Cal State East Bay, Englishtown.com, and the Art Institute Online, and has trained teachers both locally and internationally. A lifelong learner, Jaime decided to continue her education by earning a college counseling certificate at U.C. San Diego, and has recently opened a small educational consulting practice. She has helped students pursue traditional freshman and transfer admissions, research community college options, and consider alternative paths via GED or CHSPE tests. Jaime is proud to be listed on the SENG Honor Roll of Outstanding Educators.
At OnlineG3.com, Jaime is known to her students as Headmistress Guinevere. She teaches language and literature classes at G3. She is also the President and CEO of Online G3, Inc.

Tiffany Chaiko Presents: Creating Supportive Conditions for Intrinsic Motivation with Self-Determination Theory

Tiffany Chaiko
Join us as we discuss how to create positive environments that support the asynchronous strengths and needs of our complex and high-potential children. Self Determination Theory’s three psychological needs (Ryan & Deci, 2000, 2017) provide insight into environmental components that, when combined, support the well-being and naturally intrinsic motivation of gifted and 2e learners.
Participants will learn:
•The connection between well-being and motivation
•The three psychological needs that impact natural motivation
•How these can be applied by you to support the strengths and needs of your asynchronous, gifted, and 2e learners at home
Tiffany Chaiko is a twice-exceptional doctoral student at Bridges Graduate School of Cognitive Diversity in Education. She is a non-practicing accredited public relations professional and a former independent sales representative. Tiffany has more than ten years of volunteer leadership experience in educational settings.
