Joan Cass CTNC, FNP is a Holistic and Functional Nutrition Practitioner/Health Coach that consults the Gifted/2e community. She provides innovative “Bio-Neuro Hack” tools & resources on health & parenting, pulling from years of homeschooling, research & training in Functional Nutrition, Neuroinflammation, Gastrointestinal & Autoimmune and clinical studies. She loves to instill HOPE by educating others about healthy options through awareness and changing perspectives. This is her key strategy for handling the many issues that she faces as a parent of a Gifted/2e child, sharing the same goals – to help kids achieve their greatest potential!

Catherine Gruener, author of Parenting Young Gifted Children: What to Expect When you Have the Unexpected is a parent of a 2E teen, step-mother and grandmother, award winning counselor trained in counseling gifted, double graduate degreed in neuropsychology and clinical counseling, board certified in positive discipline with training in Parent Management techniques from the Yale Parent Center, who has worked with hundreds of parents of gifted and 2E children, helping them understand the social and emotional challenges of being gifted, identify strengths, and learn evidence-based parent strategies that work with gifted and 2E children. Her goal is to help families create more connected, more fulfilling, and more loving relationships. Since 2009 Catherine has provided training to parents of gifted children through organizations such as the Illinois Association for Gifted Children (IAGC), Chicago Gifted Community Center (CGCC), Davidson Institute, Science and Arts Academy, Quest Academy, Avery Coonley, and many of the private and public parents organizations in the greater Chicago-land area, advocating for gifted and profoundly gifted children through volunteer committee and board memberships with IAGC and CGCC. She provides online and in-person workshops and DIY courses using research-based parenting strategies, emotional regulation and anxiety management skills that create results.

College planning seems to get more complicated all the time, doesn’t it? From choosing where to apply to finalizing the perfect essay, and from deciding how far away is too far to figuring out how to avoid massive student debt, families have lots of questions and concerns This month, we’re talking with college consultant Brett Kennedy. Brett has the inside scoop from his years working in college admissions and financial aid for both big universities and small private colleges (including a decade as the Dean of Admissions for Berry College!), and will share with us lessons he has learned along the way. Join us as Brett demystifies the process of finding, landing, and affording the right college for your learner.


Brett Kennedy

Brett has over 25 years of experience in college admissions and aid. Most recently, he served in the Dean of Admissions role at Berry College for a decade. Before that, he began his admissions career at the University of Alabama and later held senior admissions positions at DePauw University. Having worked for colleges both large and small, Brett also held positions in both new student orientation and parent and family affairs at the University of Maryland-College Park. At Birmingham-Southern College, he worked in Financial Aid exclusively with new, incoming students. Brett holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Birmingham-Southern College and a Master of Arts in Higher Education Administration from the University of Alabama. He took additional graduate coursework in the history and politics of education at the University of Maryland-College Park. He also holds a Certificate in Independent Educational Consulting from the University of California Irvine. He is married and a father of two children. In his spare time, Brett attends a local Episcopal Church and is active in the Rotary Club of North Cobb.

This month we are practicing self-care and talking about our needs as gifted adults!  We’re talking with Paula Prober, author of Your Rainforest Mind and Journey Into Your Rainforest Mind, about exploring our own ever-evolving identities, our intensities, and our multipotentialities.  Paula will remind us that self-discovery is an ongoing journey, and to ”Accept who you are in all of your curious, passionate, deep-diving intensities.” Can’t wait!  See you there.  


Paula Prober is a psychotherapist, consultant, blogger, and author in private practice in Eugene, Oregon, USA. Over the 35+ years she has worked with the gifted, Paula has been a teacher and presenter at universities, webinars, and conferences. She consults internationally with gifted adults and parents of gifted children. Her first book, Your Rainforest Mind: A Guide to the Well-Being of Gifted Adults and Youth, is an in-depth look at giftedness including case studies, strategies for greater self-understanding and growth, and numerous resources. Her new book, Journey Into Your Rainforest Mind: A Guide For Gifted Adults And Teens, Book Lovers, Overthinkers, Geeks, Sensitives, Brainiacs, Intuitives, Procrastinators, and Perfectionists is a compilation of her most popular blog posts and includes specific strategies to guide readers back to authenticity, purpose, love, and to finally deciding what color to paint the living room. Suzie Pileggi Pawelski and James Pawelski, Ph.D

Husband-and-wife team Suzie Pileggi Pawelski and James Pawelski, Ph.D. join us to talk about their work in the field of positive psychology.  We’ll hear about their research, writing, and workshops, and ask about strategies for cultivating well-being in our own lives. James and Suzie are parents and GHF members, so they have an inside perspective on the joys and challenges of navigating a non-traditional educational path.  We’ll discover their top pieces of advice for nurturing family relationships and finding happiness in unexpected places.

Suzie Pileggi Pawelski and James Pawelski, Ph.D

“SUZANN (“Suzie”) Pileggi Pawelski has a Master of Applied Positive Psychology degree from the University of Pennsylvania. She is a freelance writer and well-being consultant specializing in the science of happiness and its effects on health and relationships. Her 2010 Scientific American Mind cover story, “”The Happy Couple,”” was the catalyst for their book, Happy Together:  Using the Science of Positive Psychology to Build Love That Lasts. Suzie blogs for Psychology Today and writes the “”Science of Well-being”” column for Live Happy, where she is also a contributing editor. She gives “Romance and Research” (TM) workshops around the world with her husband James. Previously, she directed award-winning media relations campaigns for Fortune 500 clients, worked in publicity at Radio City Music Hall, and was an associate producer for The Joan Rivers Show.

JAMES Pawelski, Ph.D., is Professor of Practice and Director of Education in the Positive Psychology Center at the University of Pennsylvania where he co-founded the world’s first Master of Applied Positive Psychology Program with Martin Seligman. The Founding Executive Director of IPPA, he is currently leading a three-year, multi-million-dollar grant investigating connections between the science of well-being and the arts and humanities. An international keynote speaker, he has presented in more than 20 countries on 6 continents, including “”Romance and Research” (TM) workshops with his wife Suzie.
