Day 1 Evening Event: Creatively Parenting Through a Strengths Based Lens

April 4, 2022 By Katherine Turner

Debbie Reber

Debbie explores parenting with creativity as a way to foster our children’s unique strengths, as well as support the intellectual, social, and emotional development of 2e and gifted children.

Because of their exceptional presentations and learning styles, gifted and 2e children demand that we get creative in how we parent them. In this talk, Debbie Reber will share her ideas surrounding creativity and parenting with the hope of giving parents some new ideas for supporting their unique, brilliant child in a way that highlights their unique strengths, benefits their intellectual, social, and emotional growth, and helps the whole family thrive. She will also offer ideas for ways parents and caregivers can bolster and support their own emotional and mental well-being for this parenting journey. Debbie’s presentation will be followed by ample time for questions and answers.

Debbie Reber is a parenting activist, bestselling author, keynote speaker, and the founder and CEO of Tilt Parenting, a top podcast, community, and educational resource for parents raising differently wired children. Her most recent book is “Differently Wired: A Parent’s Guide to Raising an Atypical Child with Confidence and Hope.”

S3, E4: Expert Series Interview with Bryan Mischler, LCSW.

March 29, 2022 By Katherine Turner

Bryan Mischler is a licensed clinical social worker and psychotherapist at the Treffert Center in Fond du Lac, Wi., a program of SSM Health. The Treffert Center is a facility dedicated to diagnosis, treatment, research and advocacy for the autistic community, with the focus of finding strengths and talents of the individual and scaffolding from these in developing areas in need of support. The center currently provides educational opportunities through the Treffert Way school for K- 8th grade. Bryan is developing programs to expand to high school, including technical school degrees and vocational skills.

Bryan has a true passion for carrying out this work. He has presented internationally and written about using strength based techniques to inspire those with which he works. Bryan was the recipient of the Professional of the Year award as a professional that does great things with children from the Wisconsin Counsel for Children and Families. He uses creative ways to find and develop a child’s talents. His motto: “Start with the Heart.” Find a child’s passion and help them develop these skills. His proudest professional achievement? Learning music and how to play guitar, because he was taught by several of his students, who used his own teaching philosophy to disabuse him of the notion that he had no musical ability!

Strengths-based learning techniques work for myriad neurotypes – there’s much to be gleaned from this session – so, come with questions!
