GHF Press Book Proposal Submission Guidelines

November 21, 2020 By ghfmain

Thank you for your interest in publishing with GHF Press. We all have a distinctive voice, a particular perspective, and a story to tell. We want to hear yours. We offer the following as guidance as you prepare your book proposal. Feel free to go beyond these suggestions and to add your own flair to your submission.

Ann Grahl, GHF Press Executive Editor

What is your book about?
Provide a summary of your book, including as much information as you deem necessary to present a clear vision of the content, as well as a title, tentative chapter breakdown, and projected number of words.

Have you started or completed writing your book?
If you have begun or finished your writing process, send us a chapter or two of the results.

Who is your audience?
Give us an idea of who you think your likely readers will be.

What makes your book stand out?
Identify other books written on the same subject or similar subjects and share what makes your approach or viewpoint unique.

Who might review your book?
If you have suggestions of professionals in the field related to your book who would be willing to read or review a copy, list their names and contact information.

What is your background?
Furnish us an overview of your background, including any pertinent personal, educational, or professional experience, as well as other writing examples—books, periodicals, blogs, websites, and so forth. Include a copy of your résumé or CV if you like.

Do you need further information?
We realize questions may arise as you begin the submission process. If that should be the case, contact Ann Grahl at ann.grahl@ghflearners.org and we will do our best to lend a hand.

  • #4 Ten ways: Use the forced choice paradigm February 23, 2021
Use the forced choice paradigm – When kids are upset, they can do lots of things: melt down, lash out, shut down, etc.  All these states represent altered neuropsychological functioning, usually marked by an excess of emotion that the body is unable to process.  If the body is overloaded on emotion, the “lizard brain” (the […]

  • #3 Ten ways: Don’t ask questions if they aren’t questions February 16, 2021
Don’t ask questions if they aren’t questions – I have a good friend who is a lawyer (who shall remain nameless for the purposes of this article) who often admonishes me for asking questions when I don’t have to.  It is a common social artifice, but it rarely serves any purpose other than maintaining niceties. […]

  • #2 Ten ways: “Let’s” not “You” February 9, 2021
“Let’s” not “You” – We’re in this together!  When I work with a client in therapy, I usually ask some variation of “What do we want to work on today?”  I know that I’m not the client (really, I do).  But this inclusive technique is a subtle way of modeling connection and setting boundaries.  Gifted […]

  • Leading with Love and Kindness February 5, 2021
I often speak about the approach of Leading with Love and Kindness within the contexts of being the President of a non-profit and as a teacher. I know that it can sound a little much. People may ask, is this guy in some weird cult?  So, I want to explain what I mean. Let’s start with explaining that […]

  • #1 Ten ways: “And” not “But” January 30, 2021
“And” not “But” – As human beings, we tend to connect things and create narratives. Sometimes this is really helpful for us (“I know that I’m not very good at chess right now, but I just started playing!” or “I didn’t like the last season of Doctor Who, but I loved the previous two seasons!”) […]

  • Ten ways you can use psychologically minded language with your gifted/2e student (at home or at homeschool) January 18, 2021
Working with your child as a both a teacher and a parent can be challenging. Teachers go to years of school to learn how to reach and mold talented young minds. Mental health professionals have years of practice in trying to unpack the tangle of human motivation. You have a career and a life (and […]
