On why the GHF Professionals Group Matters
It’s good to have an opportunity to develop rapport with and share experiences with other professionals committed to working with the gifted community.
David Chandler
My goal is to provide good teaching to support deep learning.

I have been a physics and math teacher since 1972. When I started teaching at a charter school in 2003, working with homeschooling families, I found that most of the math material available to the students was watered down, supposedly to make it self-teachable. That doesn’t do anyone any good. Just learning “how to do the problems” is like focusing on a narrow dusty path through a broad green meadow.
Mathematics is a way to see the world. It is brought to life by walking through it together with someone who loves it and explains it clearly. Math is about learning how to think and how to solve challenging problems. Rather than watering things down, my approach has been to choose the very best textbooks I had encountered in my teaching career (Foerster for the algebra series and Chakerian, et.al. for geometry), and provide the supporting lessons needed to make them “homeschool friendly.” Students need mentors who can model the thinking and problem solving process. Parents are not always up to this challenge, but through my videos and supporting materials I can go a long way to meet this need. That is my business model.
My Offerings
I offer complete courses for the entire high school curriculum, from Algebra 1 through Calculus, plus physics. Apart from Geometry, which is structured differently, I have a video lesson and a second video with problem solutions worked out in full. I make heavy use of software tools to enhance visualization and computational power, enabling students to deal with real world problem solving.

Our goal is to reach and serve as many gifted and 2e families as possible, which is why we have a free level of membership, the GHF Forum Membership, that grants access to all of our live programming, the main areas of the Forum, and our comprehensive, self-paced DIY Education course.
For those who are able to support our work, we hope you will join as a GHF Choices Member. Choices Membership is our primary source of income for this non-profit. GHF has no full-time staff and we are just looking to cover our costs. As a thank you, your $49.99/yr tax-deductible membership grants you access to the recording libraries of all of our events, as well as exclusive areas of the Forum.
