Differentiated Instruction with Maeve Pfeifer

Maeve and Barry discuss how to effectively use differentiated instruction to guide learners to develop critical thinking skills. The conversation comes down to understanding each learner as an individual and bringing out their strengths.


Maeve Pfeifer, MAT

Maeve Pfeifer has experience teaching fifth through twelfth-grade social studies and ELA. Most recently, Maeve taught eighth-grade social studies and ELA at Harlem Village Academies for two years. Before that she was a middle school teacher for four years in Harlem, teaching grades 5-8 and helping found their social studies curriculum. Prior to that Maeve spent a year teaching Honors Social Studies and AP Government to juniors and seniors at the University Park Campus School in Worcester, MA.

Carol Malueg is the mother of 2 gifted daughters, a professional in the field of gifted education, and an active member of several state and national organizations that support gifted kids and their families. Carol is a Master Facilitator and Trainer for Supporting the Emotional Needs of the Gifted (SENG). 

Carol has worked on three Javits Grant projects focused on improving the identification of and services for gifted at-risk students. Carol is a co-founder of absentmindedlearner.com, works with Mr. Gelston’s One Room Schoolhouse as a Learning Coach, and is an Independent Educational Consultant in gifted and twice-exceptional education. 

Carol serves as past-president of the Minnesota Council for the Gifted and Talented and on the Board of Directors for Gifted Homeschoolers Forum as the Education Chair.

S1, E7: Online Gifted Education with Dr. Kirsten L. Stein

Kirsten L. Stein, Ed.D. has been involved in the field of education for three decades. She graduated with a B.S. in Education and taught elementary school in the public school system. During her time as a classroom teacher, she spearheaded the district’s involvement in inclusion practices and the use of paraprofessionals in the classroom. She continued her own education and earned her M.A. Education degree with a focus on team building. Kirsten continued to be involved in the field of education while homeschooling her profoundly gifted children. She applied her background as an educator and formed Athena’s Advanced Academy to broaden the scope of learning for gifted children. This passion was her doctoral focus in earning her Ed.D. in Educational Leadership. Kirsten strives to create a supportive community of parents and learners through her role as C.E.O. and Instructor at Athena’s Advanced Academy.

S1, E5: Online Gifted Education with Jaime Smith

“Jaime Smith has been teaching English to children and adults since 1997, when she began teaching 5th and 6th grade Language Arts at The Harker School in San Jose after earning a B.A. in Linguistics from U.C. Berkeley. Since then, Jaime has earned an M.A. TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) and an M.S. Education with an emphasis in online teaching and learning. She has taught for institutions such as San Jose State University, Cal State East Bay, Englishtown.com, and the Art Institute Online, and has trained teachers both locally and internationally.

While attending a recent conference for California English teachers, Jaime gave a presentation on the use of social networking and web 2.0 technology in education, and she is thrilled to be able to apply those ideas and more to G3 courses. A lifelong learner, Jaime is now studying to earn a college counseling certificate at U.C. San Diego that will help her guide G3 students to their next educational adventure. Jaime is proud to be listed on the 2014 SENG Honor Roll of Outstanding Educators.

At OnlineG3.com, Jaime is known to her students as Headmistress Guinevere. She teaches language and literature classes at G3. She is also the President and CEO of Online G3, Inc.”
