2023 GHF Conference Day 3 Event 6: Jade Rivera

May 11, 2023 By Katherine Turner

Dr. Jade Ann Rivera presents “Can a Single Mindset Shift Empower Brilliance in 2e Children?? YES!”

This session invites anyone who cares about the well-being of 2e children to examine the impact of their mindset when it comes to teaching and supporting these hilarious, insightful, and boundary-pushing humans. You will learn how adopting a design ethos inspired me to begin to see my 2e students in an entirely new light—freeing me up to recognize them for their strengths and talents and develop experiences and environments of support that brought out their best selves. You will also receive some of the tools and strategies I used to help my students shine. Tools that helped me see them for who they were and supported me in allowing them to experiment, explore, and learn from their mistakes. Strategies that encourage resilience, grit, and creativity. Through engaging discussion, participants will be encouraged to challenge preconceived notions, embrace neurodiversity, and unlock the full potential of these extraordinary individuals.

Dr. Jade Ann Rivera is a curriculum and learning environment designer with an expertise in strength-based education for twice-exceptional children. For nearly fifteen years, Jade designed, launched, and led micro-schools in Oakland, CA, where she provided unique and engaging strengths-based learning environments that children adored. Her training in Nonviolent Communication and her Montessori credential inspire Jade’s educational philosophies and practices, including strength-based pedagogy, project-based learning, dual-differentiation strategies, and gradeless classrooms. Jade earned her Ed.D. at Bridges Graduate School of Cognitive Diversity in 2022. It her my honor to continue on as a professor and the director of the Strength-based Assessment Lab at the same school, supporting others as they envision a strength-based world for twice-exceptional humans.
